CBCT Scan
Advances in Dentistry and the health profession are continually occurring. We are lucky to live in an age when things are changing so quickly to aid us in proper diagnosis and treatment.
Recently in Dentistry, a new kind of X-ray has been developed. The CBCT, which is a mini CAT scan, is now available for us to help treat teeth. Our conventional X-rays that you are used to taking are 2 dimensional pictures of 3 dimensional teeth. While these X- rays are extremely helpful, they have obvious limitations.
Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)
It is now the standard of care, according to the American Association of Endodontists and the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, to use the 3D CBCT scan in complex cases.
As Endodontists we are typically referred the most complex cases. Routinely we are re- treating previous root canals and performing surgical procedures on teeth that until recently would likely have been extracted teeth in the past.
It is our goal to save your tooth if possible, and this new technology is helping us make appropriate and correct treatment decisions.
